An Automation Sample for My Work

Here is a quick, human, non-polished post to keep a record of a sample automation that I used, found helpful and wanted to share:

As I prepare my new class in “AI in Marketing,” I wanted to give my employee, aka AI, the task of searching for relevant information on a regular basis. So, I created a scheduled task* on ChatGPT to automate searching for the most relevant and recent news on the intersection of AI and Marketing. It failed at first few attempts, and finally gave me this output this morning:

I quickly skimmed the newsletter that ChatGPT created based on my single sentence prompt. It looked good overall. The readings were especially more relevant from those that I come across regularly everyday. For example, the Business Insider article “This startup is helping brands show up in chatbots and AI search. Read the pitch deck it used to raise $4 million” is spot on in terms of relevance to my content and a very good, clear example of the use of AI in marketing. Then I asked my Comet browser to summarize the key points and create discussion questions for the class.

Comet-generated discussion questions on the article:

I went on by creating a visualization of the process described in the article about the use of AI for marketing purposes. I asked both Gemini and NotebookLM to create infographics of the use of AI for creating digital twins to assess online visibility of brands. Here are the outputs.

NotebookLM’s infographic:

Infographic outlining the process of optimizing a brand for AI chat using digital twin technology, featuring three steps: creating digital twins, simulating user prompts, and analyzing brand ranking.

Gemini’s infographic:

Infographic illustrating AI-powered generative engine optimization, showcasing client demographics, chatbot analyzer, digital twin simulation, performance assessment, and optimized generative presence by a company named Azoma.

Gemini’s infographic is a bit more confusing, but what a nice job NotebookLM has done to convey this as a teaching material, clear and concise!

Overall, I’m happy with the output. Although some articles in ChatGPT’s automated task newsletter were not very recent, at least they were decent! See, for example, How AI is redefining marketing, today and tomorrow, Nielsen, June 2025. This automated task report is a good learning opportunity for me and good teaching opportunity for my class. I should note that although this was an automated work, it was not simple! Learning, trying, experimenting, and thinking what to do with it takes time, trial and error; but it is fun to get creative and explore!

Looking forward to finding out what else we can do with these new AI employees for creative work experiences!

P.S. Scheduled tasks in ChatGPT are available only for users with paid subscription.
P.S. This is how to do a scheduled task on ChatGPT (as per the instructions of ChatGPT, which may not be entirely correct since I found Tasks under Profile at the bottom left > Settings > Schedules > Manage). But ChatGPT can clarify any confusions anyways.
Instructions for finding scheduled tasks and creating them using ChatGPT.
